Pre PrEP Sexual Health Check

This test is designed for patients who have been referred to us in advance of them being prescribed PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis). This is a medication that helps prevent people becoming infected with HIV.

Tests to ensure normal renal function and to ensure that you are HIV negative and do not have Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C are required to be carried out before commencing PrEP, but this is done by the referral clinic. In addition to these tests, the PrEP guidelines require patients to have a baseline sexual health check, and this test profile is designed to fulfil that purpose.

What does the test cover?

This test covers the following infections:

• Chlamydia (throat, rectal and genital)
• Gonorrhoea (throat, rectal and genital)
• Syphilis

What samples are required?

The throat and rectal infections require a swab from those parts of the body. The genital infections can be detected from a urine sample in male patients and a vaginal swab in female patients.

Syphilis is detected from a blood sample. The blood sample required is very small and extracted by patients themselves, using a specially designed finger prick kit.

The test comes with full instructions and is very easy to use.

How long for the results?

Results from all of these tests will normally be 24 hours from receipt of the sample.

Treatment

If you require treatment for Chlamydia, then this can be prescribed online. With Gonorrhoea and Syphilis, these both require attendance at a local clinic for an intramuscular injection to be administered by a healthcare professional.

Packaging

The packaging is very discreet, with no mention of us or the contents on the outside.

A reply-paid envelope is included in the overall cost of the test and can be sent back in a normal post box - there is no requirement to take it to a post office. Your confidentiality is our number 1 priority.
