Urine Chemistry, Culture and Microscopy

The STI Clinic can perform a urine chemistry for you if you have urethral symptoms that you would like to investigate. Please note that this test does NOT cover sexually transmitted infections. If there is any risk of an STI, we recommend a Full STI Screen to rule these out.

If you have a burning sensation or pain when passing urine or if you have any urethral discharge, this test may be appropriate.

What does the test cover?

The urine chemistry consists of a microscopy and culture. If any organisms are grown on the culture then we will also perform an antibiotic sensitivity so that we are able to recommend the most appropriate antibiotic.

We will report any abnormalities in the urine and recommend a course of action.

How long does it take?

The urine culture takes up to 48 hours to complete.

Can I get treatment?

We can refer you to our partners at The Online Clinic where you can be assessed by a GP online after you receive your results.
